Estonian National Museum [2026]

Illustrations and animations for the Estonian National Museum exhibition “The Colours of Our Clothes. Local and Global” The exhibition’s starting points, natural dyes, plants, traditional dyeing practices, pigments arriving from distant places, and the influence of colour trade, began to feel to us more like flowing systems than static objects. We wanted the visual language to feel like a slowly shifting surface or landscape, with layers blending, wearing away, and carrying forward. The visuals emerged through the layering and merging of organic textures, plant motifs, and pigments. Some forms resemble islands or coastlines seen from a distance, while others suggest the spread of pigment or layers of sediment. Every element needed to avoid feeling completely static. Everything moves, disperses, or transforms into something else. The blue tones refer to the depth of indigo and the slow process of dyeing. The greens connect to plant-based materials, while the lighter layers suggest light, fading, and the passage of time. The overall system feels organic, fragile, and constantly changing, much like colour itself.
